Thank
goodness for the Internet, Skype and cell phones. Ryan managed to get it all connected for a
few minutes so we could talk to Julie. The connection was flakey so we had to
do without video but we could talk to her.
Today was a
not good day apparently. She just wants to come home. She asked if we could
find her a cruise ship so that if she can’t fly, she can get home anyway. There
is a problem with her idea, however – Delhi is 700+ miles/1150 km from Mumbai
which is on the coast.
I think
that first she needs to hear from the doctors when they will be willing to
release her. I know that Ryan will be in touch with the insurance company to
find out what they are willing to authorize and cover so with luck, she will be
home sooner rather than later.
She is
still receiving some pain meds but she says she is still in a lot of pain. I
tried to remind her that when she broke her arms a few years ago she was in
pain but it did all go away eventually. Her comment was that she would be quite
happy to break her arms again in exchange for broken ribs.
Noosh
e-mailed me “Today I went to a fabric shop that
Julie had been to a few times and picked up some clothes she had ordered. The
family said that they read about the accident in the newspaper and had tried to
visit Julie.
I am now back in Faridabad and it's sad without Julie to keep me
company.
All of her things are still here. It would be nice to meet Ryan when
he picks them up.
The other girl needs to get her stitches out on Wednesday so
I will go to the hospital with her and will hopefully see Julie.”
We then
managed to contact Noosh over Skype. She is going to start her volunteering
tomorrow. She said she is pretty much all healed so that is great news. I asked
her if she could get a copy of the newspaper article but she said the family
tried to find it in their pile of newspapers but couldn’t find it again. We
think that someone in the housemother’s family may have seen it and kept a copy
so I am hopeful we can get a copy. Noosh believes that their housemother will
be discharged tomorrow – I hope so too.
Ryan is
hoping by tomorrow his sim card will work so it will be easier for us to
contact her. Wish him luck!
